Donating Made Easy

Some of you have asked whether you can donate money to help our work. We have always accepted cheques, but The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) has now signed up to Just Giving to make it easier for you to donate small amounts on a regular basis.

CSH is a very small charity, and funding for our core costs is entirely provided by donations and project-focused support. You can help us work to safeguard the future of health and healthcare by contributing to our funding. Please take 5 minutes to donate - any amount will help! Thank you.

Hot off the press: the Kings Fund Reports on Sustainable Healthcare

The Kings Fund has published two papers on environmentally sustainable health and social care. Both reports are based on a literature review and stakeholder consultation carried out by The King’s Fund on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research and the Social Care Institute for Excellence.

GMC welcomes sustainable healthcare learning priorities

The General Medical Council has welcomed recommendations from the Sustainable Healthcare Education (SHE) Network on priority learning outcomes for sustainable healthcare. Follow up plans are now being developed, including a wider consultation with medical schools and Royal Colleges.

2012: Don't Waste the Year - save up to £90 million!

This year the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is focusing on helping clinical specialties and organisations to cut their waste to save money and carbon. While we are involved with many longer term projects which will change systems and transform clinical practice, the fact is that there is still a shocking amount of waste within the system as it is now. We ought to be tackling this waste immediately as it is money down the drain and carbon into the air - and we can't afford either.

BMJ Spotlight on Climate Change

Last year an excellent conference was held in London on the health and security perspectives of climate change http://climatechange.bmj.com/ where senior military officials and healthcare professionals joined forces for the first time around the urgency of climate change. The main speakers have now written articles to be published by the BMJ in a spotlight supplement.

I am now pleased to let you know that all seven articles are available on bmj.com ahead of the supplement in print which will be published on Saturday, 24 March 2012.

The NHS Forest Tree Sponsorship Scheme hits 100 Sites

On the 24th January the NHS Forest launched the Tree Sponsorship Scheme at Guy's Hospital in London. Sponsoring a tree for your preferred hospital means that you can say thank you, celebrate a birth or remember someone's life through the giving of a tree. There are over 100 hospitals supporting the scheme, all of which are very keen to plant a significant number of trees. The wonderful aspect to running the scheme is that everyone sees the benefit, everyone wants to be involved and everyone wants to make it a huge success.
